Marriages feel fragile, intimacy is commodified, children are often viewed as optional accessories, and loneliness is epidemic. We’ve never had more tools to express ourselves, yet fewer deep, lasting connections. Why? Because expressive individualism—the cultural script that says your inner self is the ultimate authority—undermines the very commitments that make love possible.

12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing
