Almighty God,
You are the fount from which every blessing pours forth. Every good thing we have comes from your gracious hand. You are the King of Heaven; and as you are our Lord and Maker, we owe you perfect obedience.
And yet none of us have obeyed you in all things. If we claimed to be in the right, our own mouths would condemn us. (Job 9:20) Father we agree with your Word that we have all turned aside; we have all become corrupt; and that there is none who does good, not even one.
When we know the right thing to do, we often refuse to do it. And when we know what you have forbidden, those are the very things we do.
We doubt when we ought to believe. We fear when we ought to trust. We are prideful when we ought to be humble. We only think of ourselves when we ought to consider others. Instead of restraining our tongue, we lash out. Instead of being content with what you give, we covet and desire what you have given others.
And we know that if we say “Amen” to this prayer while still intending to go on in sin, this prayer will be ineffectual, so hear us now as we confess our individual sins to you in silence.
Father, we know that if we ask anything in the name of Jesus, that you will hear us. So, we come with confidence, asking that in the name of Jesus and for his sake, pardon our sin. Forgive our trespasses. Wash and cleanse us thoroughly. May your peace, which surpasses all understanding guard out hearts and minds.
In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.
