Another Sabbath

CALL TO WORSHIP – Micah 6:6-8

“With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

PRAYER OF ADORATION

Holy Father,

As another Sabbath has dawned, we come to you in the name of your Son, Jesus, in whose righteousness we stand. Because you raised Christ from the grave our week now begins with mercy, grace, pardon, and rest. Father, we know that we cannot begin this day without reference to you, and without praising you. This day is yours and not ours. We are yours and not our own. You made us and redeemed us with the blood of Jesus.

You are the one who made everything in seven days, and you are the one who, in Christ, began to remake all things. You are the one who executes justice and loves to show kindness. You humbly attend to the poor. You bring down the proud and lift up the lowly to seat them with princes. You do not sleep. Your eyes are always on your people, watching them and listening to their prayers.

Father, by your Spirit, help us to turn from lesser trusts in order to trust you supremely. Turn us from lesser aims so that we can accomplish your purposes in the world. As we worship you, cause us to invest less of ourselves in our fears and anxieties. Topple our idols and establish Christ in our hearts. May he be before us. Behind us. Above us. Beneath us. Around us. Within us.

To that end, we worship you Father, through Jesus Christ, in the Power of your Spirit. In Jesus Name we pray…Amen.
