Preparing for Persecution

Introduction

12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise

INTRODUCTION

Community in the church is unique. There’s nothing else like it. Outside of the church people find community through nationality, shared political ideas, shared stage of life, work, or common interests and hobbies. But the unity and community of the church transcends all these categories.

Every Sunday morning we confess our belief in the “communion of the saints,” form the Apostles’ Creed. …

Beastly Governments

INTRODUCTION

Which matters more: planting churches or electing politicians? There is a sense, of course, in which church planting connects with eternity in ways that 21st-century American politics does not. But this is not a zero-sum game whereby political effort equals less church planting. On the contrary, it may be that all the unopposed church planting we’re able to pursue today is the result of a lot of political effort in the past. And, if …

Love Lake Wylie

Sunday we continued our series on church membership and ministry we’re calling “Love Lake Wylie.” We’re taking seriously— the teaching of the Bible— that we cannot become who God has called us to be without the church. We’re countering the individualism of our culture and declaring something bold: we need one another. We need our church. This morning I preached my first official sermon as pastor of Lake Wylie Baptist Church. I’d love it if you came and visited us. Today, our text was 1 Peter 2.4-12. We asked the question, “How can we (LWBC) live out the hope and power of the gospel?” Below you’ll see a link to my sermon manuscript from the sermon.

Encouraging Women’s Ministry in the Church

I can’t tell you how excited I am to see God growing a desire in the ladies of Christ Community Church to minister to women. They are planning an event for March 5, 2016 from 10am-12pm and if you’re a lady in the North Meck area, you should definitely attend. They have a guest speaker, a worship group coming in, and best of all, it’s totally free.

How Should We Define and Discuss the Church?

A chasm stretches between the words “is” and “does”. Unfortunately, we live in a culture far more interested in “does” than “is”, and this interest negatively affects the way we think about the church. If I were to ask the average church member to tell me about the church I would get hundreds of “does” answers.

  • The church is where we worship.
  • The church is where we have small groups/bible studies.
  • The church is where
