Alongside my weekly preaching duties, I am entering my fourth year of teaching through books of the Bible in a 2-hour community women’s Bible study hosted at my church. This Fall I will begin teaching through the Old Testament book of Daniel.
With each new class, I evaluate and refine my teaching outlines and methodology. I tighten the structure, clarify the outline, and hopefully improve as a teacher. In years past, I have simply worked through the text systematically each week, weaving theological and practical observations along the way.
My current outline breaks down into three sections: text, theology, application. When I teach the Bible, I want my students to attend to the text first, interpretation second, and conclude with application. This outline helps me accomplish that goal.
